British Sky Broadcasting Group Adopts Brainware Distiller for A/P Automation

UK Television and Broadband Provider to Leverage Intelligent Data Capture Solution for Invoice Processing

Brainware, Inc., the leading provider of intelligent data capture and enterprise search solutions,
announces that British Sky Broadcasting Group (BSkyB) has selected the company’s Brainware Distiller™ solution for the processing of invoices in the United Kingdom and Ireland. BSkyB (LSE: BSY) will also implement the Brainware Distiller Visibility™ module for real-time metrics and reporting on the invoice processing cycle, as well as Brainware’s own exception handling module.

“Brainware Distiller consistently outperforms competing technologies,” said Carl Mergele, Chief Executive Officer at Brainware. “Other data capture solutions require the client to spend extensive man-hours adapting their software to the department’s needs, creating thousands of templates before realizing automation. By eliminating templates from the equation, our solution does the adapting, offering a more immediate return on investment.”

British Sky Broadcasting Group operates the most comprehensive multi-channel television service in the United Kingdom and Ireland. BSkyB markets its programs through various channels, including free to air and mobile television platforms. The group also provides telephone and broadband services to its direct to home (DTH) customers. Decisions, Decisions

This afternoon, I came across a piece from the British press that discusses a growing sense of confusion among people who simply see too many options in their everyday life:

The growing ranks of "indeciders" are defined as "a group of individuals suffering high levels of confusion while displaying an inability to be decisive, leading in some cases to depression."

The term was coined by Professor Harriet Bradley from the University of Bristol. She said: "With a constant stream of new media, daily technological advancements and aggressive multimedia advertising, it's no wonder over half of Britain thinks life is more confusing for them than for their parents."

According to the survey, 42 per cent lie awake at night trying to make choices, and almost half admit that "even little decisions can be hard to make."

While I've only ever lived on the American side of the pond, I can certainly relate to these findings, and I'm sure many of you can, too. With the industrialized world becoming ever more tightly knit, and yet increasingly complex and nuanced, navigating the global marketplace in search of the best solution for one's desires and needs becomes a daunting task indeed. You've experienced a sensory overload, and when you finally do make that choice, how do you know if it was the right thing to do?

The same can be said of business technology solutions. You're trying to run a tight ship and maintain a solid bottom line for your clients, and the economic currents are rough indeed. With so many applications out there, each of them promising to make your operation the best it can possibly be, how do you know which of them offers a sound return on investment and a meaningful benefit to your business needs?

In the case of automating your paper-based processes with a solution like Brainware Distiller, there's no risk of tossing and turning at night over that decision because no other solution is like Distiller. No other data capture solution offers the processing of semi- and unstructured documents without elaborate preparations on the part of the client. No other solution offers well over 80% extraction of vital information on a consistent basis. No other solution offers the same ability to validate data across all available platforms, providing superior touchless pass-through, speeding the process and minimizing cycle times, providing quick operational benefits both monetary and otherwise.

Observe our clients, many of whom are among the world leaders in their respective industries. Continental Airlines. Shell Oil. Sun Chemical. These companies have millions of concerns, investors to satisfy, far-flung points of distribution/service and some very, very large names to protect...and they chose Brainware Distiller for the world-class performance it offered.

Sometimes, the decision is simple.

Now...what to have for dinner...

Global Healthcare Company Chooses Brainware Distiller for A/P Automation

Brainware’s Intelligent Data Capture Platform to Process More Than a Half-Million Invoices Annually

Brainware, Inc., the leading provider of intelligent data capture and enterprise search solutions,
announced today that it has signed a significant new sales contract with a worldwide healthcare payer and provider. This company, which serves millions of customers globally, has selected Brainware Distiller to process more than 600,000 invoice pages per year.

This company has long utilized data entry operators to manually input invoice information resulting in lengthy cycle times and a lack of real-time visibility into accounts payable performance metrics. With a steady expansion of business into new territories, this customer needed a proven A/P automation solution that would scale to their growing business needs, integrate easily into their existing PeopleSoft ERP environment, and provide an immediate boost to operational efficiency. Additionally, Brainware Distiller’s unique ability to process any type of unstructured document will allow them to roll the solution out to other areas of the organization quickly, enabling continued optimization of document-centric business processes.

"Nonprofit organizations such as this are under constant pressure to put a larger share of their revenues back into fulfilling their core mission,” says Carl Mergele, Chief Executive Officer at Brainware. “By spending less on back office operations they create opportunities to reallocate more money to facilities, patient care, and enhanced coverage for those who need it."

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Chooses Brainware Distiller for Automated Document Processing

Replaces Existing Optical Character Recognition Software With Intelligent Data Capture

Brainware, Inc., the leading provider of intelligent data capture and enterprise search solutions,
announced today that Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), one of the world’s most technologically advanced research facilities, has selected the company’s Brainware Distiller™ solution for the automated categorization and indexing of microfilm and microfiche documents.

Under the new agreement, LLNL will utilize Brainware’s intelligent data capture solution to automatically sort documents and extract specific data from up to 900,000 pages of microfilm and microfiche annually.  This agreement follows an extensive period during which the laboratory experimented with various other conversion methods, with limited success.

These types of media, originally created by taking a “picture” of the original document and storing it as a microscopic hard copy, presented a challenge that could not be mastered by template-based optical character recognition applications.  As these media were created manually, the images were often crooked, meaning the relevant data could move haphazardly about the page.  Capturing this data was absolutely necessary for the proper sorting, indexing, and future retrieval of the documents; with a backlog of hundreds of thousands of such documents, the ability to “interpret” an image and properly identify relevant information was a key value driver for any imaging application.

“When one of the most sophisticated and vital national security operations in the industrialized world chooses our solution for process optimization, we consider that an honor,” says Carl Mergele, Chief Executive Officer at Brainware.  “Distiller stands alone in its ability to extract relevant pieces of data from large quantities of documents, regardless of their layout.  By automating an otherwise labor-intensive process, Lawrence Livermore is freeing up dollars better spent on protecting the nation and developing alternative energy solutions for the future.”

Funded primarily by the United States Department of Energy, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory was established in 1952 to meet urgent national security needs by advancing nuclear weapons science and technology.  Today, LLNL employs over 6,000 people, houses some of the world’s most powerful supercomputers, and pursues their mission of advancing and applying science and technology to ensure the safety, security, and reliability of the U.S. nuclear deterrent; reduce or counter threats to national and global security; enhance the energy and environmental security of the nation; and strengthen the nation’s economic competitiveness.

Leading Entertainment and Communications Company Chooses Brainware Distiller for A/P Automation

Replaces Existing Optical Character Recognition Software With Intelligent Data Capture

Brainware, Inc., the leading provider of intelligent data capture and enterprise search solutions,
announced today that a major entertainment and communications firm has selected the company’s Brainware Distiller™ solution for the processing of paper invoices. They will also implement Brainware Visibility™ for real-time statistics and reporting on the invoice processing cycle, as well as Brainware Distiller’s workflow module for exception handling. This solution replaces a competitive document capture product.

Under this multi-year agreement, this corporation will leverage Brainware’s intelligent data capture solution to automatically extract and validate data from roughly 200,000 invoices annually, including both PO and non-PO invoices. Furthermore, Visibility will bring fast and easy access to real-time key performance indicators and business metrics pertaining to suppliers and related invoices. Working in tandem with their existing ERP system, each of these components will provide for a vastly accelerated Accounts Payable process, quickly validating line-item data, providing up-to-the-moment financial insight, eliminating backlogs, and minimizing costly manual data entry.

This new Brainware client notes that with their previous automation solution, their process was restricted by the need to create templates for each vendor’s invoice.  Additionally, they were unable to extract vital line-item information for validation which created an extra burden on the A/P department. In their desire to improve existing processes, they sought a technologically advanced solution that could relieve the most time-consuming data entry responsibilities, maximize hands-free extraction, and reduce the opportunity for human error to an absolute minimum. They chose Brainware Distiller to deliver those results.

“Template-free, intelligent data capture cannot be oversold in today’s market,” says Carl Mergele, Chief Executive Officer at Brainware. “Distiller is the best automation platform available today because of its ability to scale based on volume, document layout, and document type.  As a result, we can help our customers quickly and effectivly optimize their invoice payment operations, starting on Day One.”
